About Us
Proudly Serving the Community Since 1946
John Plyler Home Center began in 1946 in a small, newly constructed building on Broadway. Today, the company sits at the intersection of highways 8 and 70B, its location since 1984.
The company started as a wiring and plumbing service, and by 1952 the business had grown enough for John and his family to move out of the back of the building and into their new house behind the store. Another move followed in 1956, when the Plylers bought the Dr. Gould Building on Broadway in downtown Glenwood. Twelve years later, the business expanded into hardware by purchasing the back portion of Thrash Hardware.
In 1978, Plyler's sons Billy and Johnny became more active in the business, bringing in the second generation of the family.
In 1984, Plylers moved into its current location; the poultry industry was hitting a huge boom, creating a demand for more construction and thus more building materials.
The Plylers bought a 7,000 square foot building from Caddo Building Supply and moved it behind the store for lumber storage. It was expanded even further to keep up with the business demands.
In 1994, 16,000 square feet were added to the store with 8,000 square feet each for the showroom and a warehouse. In 2000, a 31,250 square-foot warehouse was added to the 14-acre complex.
In 2005, Billy's daughter Brandie became more active in the store, bringing the third generation of the family into the fold.
In 2007, a 6,200 square-foot appliance warehouse was added so the company could buy in bulk to keep a good supply for customers while keeping prices down.
The store carries a full line of Kitchen Aid appliances, as well as Amana, Whirlpool, and Maytag. We have an award-winning paint department stocked with a full assortment of Valspar colors and lines; we also carry Quadra-Fire pellet and wood heaters. We stock a full line of building supplies like shingles, drywall, plywood, lumber, insulation, doors, windows, plumbing, electrical, and anything else you need to build your home.
The company has been doing business here for more than 75 years, and is still family-owned and operated. Billy Plyler, Johnny Plyler, and Billy's daughter Brandie Killian are proud to have the privilege of serving this community since 1946, and we look forward to many more decades growing with Glenwood.
