John Plyler Home Center
John Plyler Home Center is a family owned company that has been in business for 69 years. John Plyler Home Center is a full home center with all your building needs, electrical, plumbing, hardware, lumber, paint, building materials, appliances, and so much more.
The business began in 1946 in a small, newly constructed building on Broadway. Today, the company sits at the intersection of HWY 8 and 70B, its location since 1984.
John Plyler Home Center began as a wiring and plumbing service. By 1952, the store had grown enough so John and his family could move out of the back of the building and into their new house behind the store. Another move followed in 1956 when the Plyler's bought the Dr. Gould building on Broadway in downtown Glenwood. Twelve years later, the business expanded into hardware by purchasing the back portion of Thrash Hardware.
In 1978, Plyler's sons, Billy and Johnny, became more active in the store bringing in the second generation of Plyler family.
In 1984, Plyler's moved into its current location, the poultry industry was hitting a huge boom, creating a demand for more construction.
The Plyler's bought a 7,000 square foot building from Caddo Building Supply and moved it behind the store for lumber storage. It was expanded even further to keep up with the business demands.
In 1994, 16,000 square feet was added to the store with 8,000 square feet each for the showroom and as a warehouse on the second floor. The entire store was updated and given a new look and the advantage computer system was updated with ten new terminals added.
In 2000, a 31,250 square foot warehouse was added to the 14 acre complex.
In 2005, Billy's daughter, Brandie, became more active in the store; bringing the third generation of Plyler family into the business.
In 2007, a 6,200 square foot appliance warehouse was added so the company could buy in bulk. This keeps a good supply for the customers and keeps the price down.
The store carries the Whirlpool family of appliances, Amana, Whirlpool, Kitchenaid,& Maytag. We have an award winning paint department with all the Valspar paint colors and paint lines. We carry country stove and Quadrafire pellet and wood heaters. We also have a full building supply side with shingles, sheet rock, plywood, lumber, insulation, doors, windows, plumbing, paint, electrical, and anything else you may need to build your home.
The company is now in its 70th year of business and is still family owned and operated. Billy Plyler, Johnny Plyler, and Billy's daughter Brandie Killian are proud to have had the privilege of serving their community for 69 years and look forward to many more.
